PLCs
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
offer a wide variety of applications
in areas such as:
- Robotics
- Assembly machines
- Energy management
- Material handling
- Machine tools
- Molding and casting machines
- Packaging machines
- Batch Control
PLC OVERVIEW
- On/Off control
- Analog Input/Output DC Volts, DC MA
- Timers and Counters for simple manufacturing processes
- Sequencers for controlling sequencing operations
- Operator Interface for displaying and entering a wide variety of operations
A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is a device which
processes input data.
From this input data, output data is generated.
The PLC program reads the input data and determines
what output data to generate.
Programmable Logic Controllers are a panel builder's dream.
The hardware wiring is straight forward.
Input devices; such as Push Buttons, Selector Switches
and Sensors are wired to inputs.
Output devices; such as Solenoids, Lights and Contactors are
wired to outputs.
The controller's inputs and outputs have indicator lights.
These lights tell which inputs and outputs are on.
From this information... any problem can be determined.
Safety relays are sometimes used with PLCs when a danger exists. These safety
relays disable the controller and prevent the machine from cycling.
Programmable Controllers work with color graphics, touch screens, barcode
readers and printers. Additionally, PLCs can be incorporated and utilized
in a network.
