A PID closed loop controller is used to regulate a single motor. A digital feedback signal (generated by an encoder or other device) is sent to the PID controller. The controller then uses this signal to 1) determine the motor's speed and 2) make any necessary corrections. This ensures highly accurate speed regulation, even under varying load conditions.
A Follower controls a downstream motor with reference
to the speed of an upstream lead motor. A feedback sensor is used on
the controlled motor or shaft to provide closed loop control.
The follower controls the downstream motor in ratio to the lead motor.
This is the digital equivalent of an adjustable gear box.
